Anyone for XO Loh Mee?

Anyone knows how XO Loh Mee taste like? Or have you heard of this dish?

There’s this place in Sunway, behind the Puchong LDP highway, offerning a pretty good variety of what I call as ‘special’ Chinese food. It’s like one of those ‘tai chow’ places, where you order rice & dishes for dinner. 😀

The place I’m referring to is called Tian Tian Lai Seafood Restaurant, located in a food court in PJS10, Sunway. It’s situated in a housing area, & the small food court is behind a row of shop houses along the LDP highway (before Puchong toll).

If you’re observant enough, as you come out of the Puchong toll, there’ll be a turning, & one row of shop houses on your upcoming left. The food court is right behind the shop houses, so if you take the first left turn after the Puchong toll, you’ll see the food court on your right.

The XO Loh Mee is really nice, & costs RM5/person. My family ordered one for 3 persons, so that came up to RM15. The taste was just ‘wow’ & there’s crab meat & medium-size prawns in the dish as well! Not bad for RM15, eh? Accompanying the Loh Mee is definitely the black vinegar, which is a MUST. The entire dish will taste really good with the fragrance & taste of the XO & the black vinegar, and the noodles, prawns, & crab meat blend very well together. Somehow it tastes like ‘Shark Fin Soup minus the shark fins’! *lol* 😛

The other 2 dishes that we had was the Marmite Chicken & the ‘stir-fried Yau Mak with preserved beancurd’. Both was excellent well, & the generous serving for 4 people costs us RM8 for each of the dishes only! Coolness! Altogether, we spent RM31 for a delicious meal & I’m indeed satisfied with the decision to go there for dinner. Well, the only thing is that we’ve to wait for quite a while as the service is quite slow. But overall, food wise, I could give an A-!

What’s good about this chicken is that the taste & fragrance of the marmite is SO evident! It somewhat tastes like the honey-glazed BBQ chicken wings, but smothered with marmite. Wow. Irresistable! 😛

You’ll be wondering why I put this common vegie into this site, eh? Well, truthfully, this vegie dish is one of the better ones that I’ve tasted in the many places that I’ve been to. The preserved beancurd (‘fu yue’ in Cantonese) is generously included in stir-frying the vegie, & the bits & pieces of chilli padi (bird’s eye chilli) gives a wonderful kick to the common vegie! 😛

Porkilicious!

Yeah, found another place for good food! This time, it’s the pork ball (the flat ones) noodles at Bangsar 😛

It’s one of the best that I’ve tried so far. Seriously, I can dare say that it IS good. I could give it a grade A for its good taste! Located at a Chinese coffeeshop at Lucky Garden, Bangsar, is this famous pork ball noodles stall. It’s a usual coffeeshop, stuffy, filled with people & no doubt noisy, but my friend told me that the pork ball noodles are good, & so goes the ‘pan mee’ (flat flour noodles served either in soup or dry with dark soya sauce)

I ordered the ‘kon lou loh shu fan’ (dry ‘rat tail’ noodles) & my, my, let me just make your mouth water! (Hurry, prepare a bowl or a pail to contain your uncontrolled salivation!)

The loh shu fan was chewy, yet not to the extend that it feels like chewing gum, AND soft, but not to the extend that it feels over-cooked or ‘mushy’. Mmm…interesting, eh? It just gave me a ‘feel good’ when I ate it 😛 The mince pork was fragrantly stir-fried; the smell of pork wasn’t pungent to the effect that it feels yucky eating it, but it was nicely mixed with sauce, rich in taste & texture, to give the mince pork some added advantage when mixed with the noodles! Ahahaha…now, to the soup & the meatball itself!

The meatball was ‘springy’ and not too salty, and the soup that came with it was fragrantly spiced with a dash of white pepper & chopped spring onions. Yums! I recommend our dear readers to try it for themselves. It’s something that you won’t regret eating it, even if you feel that there are better ones. And if there are better ones, make sure you introduce it to us, the Perutbesi duo!

MIFC: Team Italy Competing!

*Pheeew….boom!! Pheeew….boom!* This went on for 30 minutes during the competition days! Cool eh? It was actually pretty interesting, considering the fact that Malaysia rarely have such events on! 🙂 The sight & sound of fireworks dancing in the night sky was one to behold 🙂

The 1st MIFC was held in the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC). We, the Perutbesi duo managed to go there for 2 of the events *smiles proudly* Anne went for the display night on the 24th of August, while I went for the Team Italy’s competition night on the 25th 😀 However, we, like the thousands of others only watched the fireworks from outside the convention centre 😛

The event is carried out every Friday & Saturday, from 16th August to 2nd September. On display nights, there’ll be 10 minutes of fireworks shooting into the sky, while on competition nights, the event will last for 30 minutes 😛

Every night when the event is on, Putrajaya will be thronged by people from all over Malaysia, & other parts of the world, mesmerized by the awesome display of fireworks! 😀 For once, to be stuck in a traffic jam is something that’s not stressful, & one that brings a smile to each person’s face! Amazing, eh? Mind you, the jam to reach the bridge before the convention centre takes around 1 hour, & the jam after the event (to get out of Putrajaya) was another 1 ½ hours!! Toll itself, from Sunway, costs RM6.40 both ways, with an hour plus drive to arrive, with the jam!

SOULed Out – So Lip Smacking

Check out the ever famous Souled Out Cafe & Bar for a cozy yet happening dining experience. Not to mention a food outlet, which is almost full all the time 🙂

Souled Out is famous for its location, atmosphere and friendly services. Had an opportunity to dine with a big group of colleagues at Souled Out, Desa Sri Hartamas last Friday. It was my first time there. My friends often told me that it is one of the best hangout place and i don’t really believe them until i made my way there. One friend described the place as a ‘high class mamak’..hmmm. It was indeed packed with diners and you really have to make sure you be there early or make a reservation in advance to avoid disappointment 🙂

Souled Out offers a mixed of 3 cuisines, namely Western, Indian and Malayian favourites. Their Indian dishes are superb and highly recommended by one of my colleague. Souled Out menu listed almost 100 different dishes and their price is somehow ‘well priced’ (*i can’t think of a proper word right now :P), if compared with the service and the quality of food they offer.

Anyone Can Cook

Yeap, thats the famous tagline from the latest movie by Pixar, Ratatouille 🙂 This post has nothing to do with neither cooking, nor getting everyone to become a cook. Hehe..the headline might be a bit deceiving, but it definitely has something to do with what I’m about to write here. I was given an opportunity to attend the free movie screening of Ratatouille last Thursday at Cineleisure, Mutiara Damansara. Yeap, I’m able to watch Ratatouille on its opening night itself *jumping around. The free movie screening was part of Intel’s celebration of the success of Intel Core Microarchitecture and the 1st year anniversary of Intel Core 2 Duo.

The party started with guests indulging themselves in great food served by caffe 1920. Didn’t get to take any photo of food as I’m kinda ‘chicken out’ a bit with so many ‘adults’ around me and i only have my hp that nite. The photos didn’t turn out nice 😦

The party continued with cake cutting ceremony. Check out the BIG birthday cake. Lurv it! Simple but pretty *yum. The dinner and cake cutting ceremony ended around 7.20pm, where guests, media members and Intel staffs were directed to the cinema to catch the 7:30pm show.

I bet there is at least one person there who wonders what Ratatouille has to do with Intel, right? Well, it is because * Intel’s C2D processors helped Pixar bring Ratatouille to life, faster than ever, with 30% performance improvement in computer-generated animation and visual effects rendering software. Way to go! The rats look so real! I even had goosebumps a few times while watching the movie…eerrkk..I’m afraid of rats! 😛

Overall, all of us had fun that nite 🙂 The movie was great and funny! LOVE it. Don’t mind watching it for the second time though 🙂

Forgive us for being silent since our last post. We’ve been pretty distracted with other areas of our lives. Anne is busy working on a project, while I am busy with other stuff.

Lately, we noticed that there are many events happening in Malaysia. It’s probably due to the 50th Anniversary of Malaysia, but sadly, we haven’t had the chance to attend all of it. Weekends are taken up for family & friends since the weekdays are for work *sigh*

Ideas: leftovers & fridge clearing

Somehow my fridge is cluttered with quite a lot of food & vegie. Not because I’m a Perutbesi, but because we rarely get to cook at home apart from Sundays & Mondays, & we usually have to buy more than we need since the market won’t sell anything in too small an amount.

I’m the type of person who can’t stand the fridge cluttered with too many stuff. Plus, I can say that I’m bonkers enough to cook up anything found in the fridge! Just imagine, last week, I found half a bowl of rice, 2 bundles of ‘choy sum’, a packet of carrots, a box of cherry tomatoes, some deep freeze seafood nuggets, and many more that it’ll be a whole long list to write it out here!! 😆

As hungry & uncomfortable with the sight as I am, I decided to give my ‘mad & creative’ side a go 😉 I took the rice, ‘choy sum’ and a carrot, some nuggets, & 2 eggs, & walked to the kitchen feeling excited 😀

*chop chop shred shred beat beat cut cut chiang chiang chiang*

(sound of chopping the vegie, shredding the carrots, beating the eggs, cutting the nuggets, & cooking it all with the rice in the wok….of course one ingredient after each other in a proper sequence la)

After an enjoyable time of cooking up a storm ‘kononnya’ & making a mess out of the kitchen… 😀 … I had lunch served! *yay*

Food fiesta even in the office?

The one thing about my workplace (aside from work) is the word “Food”. Interestingly, most people who enter this company to work will eventually look ‘fuller’… 😆 I’m not an exception!! *faints*

Last Friday, we had the usual monthly office birthday-babies-of-the-month lunch. This time’s lunch was “WAH!”. Usually, we’ll have catered rice or something around that sort. This time around, we had: *drumrolls* 😆

Does it look like Kenny Rogers Roasters? Teeheeheehee… the person in charge managed to get someone to cook up loads of black-pepper quarter roasters, mash potatoes, stir fried vegie, & fried rice 😛 Yum yum… so far the best office-lunch I’ve ever had! 😀

Malaysia Food Festival – Spice Route

Hey ya! I’m back and all spiced up with some updates on the Malaysia Food Festival 2007. Couldn’t run away from posting this as Ruth has declared in her previous post that “…Anne will be at Suria KLCC today to cover the event & bring back some photos & news…” . Better get this posted before she start hunting me up and down for this *grin*

I was hoping to cover on the opening ceremony yesterday (Fri) but i couldn’t make it to the ceremony on time 😦 But i was able to stop by at the Spice Route event today and get some information for our dear readers here 🙂

The Spice Route event will be held until this Sunday at Suria KLCC Centrecourt. There are few exhibitors from the food industry who participated in that event. Among them are Chakri Place, San Francisco Steakhouse, Chocz, Bakin’ Boys Malaysia, King Pie, House of Peri-Peri, Spring Garden Chinese Restaurant, Santini@Suria KLCC. Shrooms, Bongsen, Stars Oysters & Sushi Bar etc. Visitor can get to try on some of the delicacies offered at the booth, get a glimpse of the menu, watch live culinary demonstration or talk to their staff. Some of the exhibitors also give away discount voucher or free meal voucher for lucky visitor 🙂

Well..do make a trip to Suria KLCC to experience the wonders of Malaysian food 🙂 For those who couldn’t make it, dun worry…as the Tutti Fruity event will be take place at 1 Utama on 17-19 August. There will be a wide array of thirst-quenching juices, mocktails and fruit drinks for visitor to try on during the event *yay*.

Visitor can also get to see a lineup of lip smacking rice dishes at the third event for the Malaysia Food Festival 2007, the Rice Festival. It will be held on 24-26 August at Sunway Pyramid Main Concourse Lower Level 1.
